What is YouthBridge?

YouthBridge Community Foundation is a non-profit organization which is focused on capitalizing children’s charities.  Our services are two-pronged:

  • to help children’s charities achieve financial sustainability by implementing improved business practices and building equity capital.

  • to help donors, or philanthropic investors, find stable children's charities in which to invest.

Our strategy of capitalizing children's charities is designed to attain our mission of building a network of strong, effective and financially sustainable social agencies to support disadvantaged children.  Join us as we help children in a new way - by improving the balance sheets and building entrepreneurial skills in the agencies that take care of them.   [hear more

Current Issues Facing Children’s Services

Children’s charities need new ways to build their enterprise, fund their growth and do the organization’s work.  Most of them depend on some combination of donations, fees and government payments.  Yet, donations as a percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product are declining, as is government funding, while costs of service delivery and competition for private donations are increasing.   Most small and midsize agencies have little or no equity capital, and traditional fund-raising cannot fill the gap. It is time to look at new strategies!

Our Approach

YouthBridge Social Financial Advisors assist individuals and families who wish to fulfill their philanthropic vision in three ways:

  • by following your passion and investing in the charities of your choice
  • by investing through the YouthBridge Community Foundation
  • by investing directly in the YouthBridge Community Foundation

When you invest in YouthBridge, your investment is used to fund our three "E" initiatives:  Education, Enterprise Investments and Endowment Building.  Each initiative is designed to create financial sustainability in children's charities.  This means our community dollars are leveraged for maximum impact.   Read more about our unique way to help children's charities in the "Our Approach" section above.

Our Philosophy

We believe there is
no greater investment than one made in the health, growth and future of our
children.  We also believe that you should follow your passion in your charitable giving.  Whether your interests are in the arts, your church, the environment, education or others, we are here to follow your direction; we ask, however, that you earmark
half of your charitable investments for children's agencies.  This allows us to leverage your gift in a unique way to build stronger balance sheets in the institutions that serve disadvantaged children.

For more than 130 years, the YouthBridge Community Foundation, formerly the General Protestant Children's Home, has taken care of disadvantaged children. Our resources are committed to improving the lives of tomorrow's generation.
